Is it possible to balance school, an internship, and a part-time job?

Hi all!

So I recently was accepted to intern in my governor’s office during the fall semester. I’m excited, but also unsure if I should accept. I will be going to school full time (taking 14 credits, although the internship does count as three of these) and TA-ing for a very difficult statistics class. As a paid TA I am expected to work up to 20 hours a week, which includes office hours, grading, and teaching a lab.

I really want to do the internship as I feel it will help me in the long run, but I don’t want my grades to slip. Does anyone have experience juggling these things or have any advice? Should I even consider it?

How many hours a week would the internship be?

The internship hours should be similar to what you’d put into a 3 hour course, which is about 9 hour per week.

I did all that when I was a senior, I worked 15 hours and my internship was a 6 credit class where I went to the state legislature 2 days per week. It did require me to commute an hour each way but it was an easy commute.

Honestly, it’s a lot of time but worth it.

@guineagirl96 It’ll probably be 10-12 hours a week!

When are your regular classes scheduled?

This semester, I’m doing a part-time internship working about 20-25 hours a week, an 18-hour courseload (internship not included; 6 classes), and a 10-hour job on my campus (though I can do most of this online).

But I also have 2 days where I don’t have class until evening and no class Friday.

If you can line up all the hours AND believe you can handle it all, I’d say go for it.

Yes!! You can do it! I balanced a fifteen credit courseload, a part-time job (10 hrs/week) and an internship (16 hrs/week) for the past two semesters and it was doable! Good luck :slight_smile:
