Hi,
Recently my family has went under some financial turmoil that really made it hard to support a 4 years education in GWU. I had already submitted the early decision package before all of this have happened. I have to say i really look forward to an education in DC and GWU, but the financial reality have forbid to bind myself to such school, when especially I’m an international student and usually gave out limited financial aid.
I already emailed to school to discuss a possibility for such ever possible to occur and I want to hear from all of you on cc GWU forum and your opinions.
Best,
@albertzchen You do not need to change your application status. If you are admitted, and the financial aid package is not enough for you to attend, you can decline the offer of admission. The early decision program is not a legally binding contract that forces you to pay into a college education. Anyone can decline the offer if the finances are not there to attend.
But by breaking the ED detriment my chances in pursuing other applications from more affordable schools, like state universities. I’m not sure what the consequence of breaking an ED agreement and I do not want to do that. I already send GWU an email requesting to push my application to RD.
@albertzchen Well, if you already did it why are you asking us?
I was waiting for responses but then I realize I couldn’t wait that long so I did it anyway. It was very unfortunate that something like this to occur, especially with a reputable school as George Washington University.
@albertzchen You are still permitted to submit applications to universities, through the early decision program. You just cannot apply to another university under the same application status. That way, if you are rejected from the university—or you cannot attend for financial reasons—you can still look at offers from other universities.
I heard other ppl told me the same thing, but there’s also ppl telling me that if you back out of ED if you got accepted you’re on a blacklist that is shared among schools. I just don’t want to take the chance.
@albertzchen There is no such thing as a collegiate blacklist. This is an old myth that has circulated throughout highschool students.
