I had great difficulty choosing between two colleges, and in the end, the decision was very last-minute. Although I had put a LOT of thought into both schools, I am still not 100% convinced that my decision was the best.
It's a few days past May 1. Can I still change my mind? Can I call the college I turned down and tell them I've changed my mind?
Has this ever happened before? I know I was highly sought-after for various reasons, if that helps any.
I'm ok with losing my deposit at the other school.
I'm not saying I'm jumping the gun and I'm going to try to switch, but it has been a persistent thought these last couple days.
In any case, I'll probably be happy and successful at either college, but I want to know if it is still possible to enroll at a college I just declined (and keep my scholarship). My fear is that they destroyed all records of me after I declined.

Call and ask. That's the only way to really know.

I've heard that most colleges keep records of admitted students for at least a year.

After my older S turned down a college that wanted him a lot, the associate provost called and tried to get my S to change his mind.

So, if you have changed your mind, call the college and ask if you can still attend there and get the scholarship that they had offered.

thanks Northstarmom! you gave me some very helpful info

The college will be using its waitlist and will start soon, so if I wish to follow through with this, I should act soon

I think it's possible if you contact the school SOON.

Quite unlikely. I'm sure all schools still are legally required to keep some documentation. Many schools ask you if you've applied before, and what the decision was, and the only way for them to confirm what you've said to look at their past documents. ;)

bump for all those second guessers

I’d like to know too

Yes, you can. I don’t think they auto-destroy everything, because recently I received an email from NU saying that they will still keep my file until one academic year. If you have a serious case of buyers’ remorse, call the college immediately. If they still have space for you, you’re golden. From what I know, quite a lot did this during the summer melt period.

This is a really old thread btw! :O

Closing old thread
