So McGill's residence lottery system placed me in a double room in New Rez, which was definitely not my first choice. I'm generally a more introverted person and was hoping to get a residence closer to the campus, with no mandatory meal plan. I ranked Greenbriar (single room) as my first choice - so needless to say, I got the short end of the stick in spite of having everything completed well before June 18.

At this point, is it impossible to request a change to my first choice rez? The student culture of New Rez just doesn't really appeal to me, and while I'm not particular as to whether or not I'll have a roommate, I definitely want to live as close to campus as possible.

Hmmm… I think I ranked New Rez around the middle of my list, actually. I guess you’re right in that it is closer to campus than several other residences, but the meal plan is what really gets me - it’s incredibly expensive! Have you had any experience with switching residences? I just saw that there was a note that said I could request a change after September 12th, but how successful are these (usually)?

Not very successful. Depends on how many turn up and how many others request changes aswell. I got La Cit Double myself - equally as expensive as new rez. Was like my 6th choice :/

I got one of the MORE houses, but it looks like one of the smaller ones … one of the pictures shows a loft bed above the desk :’( … any idea whether we can switch between the MORE houses?

yes it was … but I saw a few pictures of my house (3601 University Street) and it doesn’t look good at all … can we switch between MORE houses, do u think? I was really excited about MORE, but now my friend who’s going with me got assigned to a different house way down the street … and if singles are this small, I would rather prefer a double. Where did u live in your first year?

Well, you cant switch between more houses as obviously someone else will be assigned to that house which your friend is in. It is basically considered a different rez while sharing the same name. Cheer up, pictures could be misleading on the website. It would be best to ask someone who lives/lived there though I dont think there are many to ask since many dont opt to live there. I’m starting this Fall but friends joined about a year earlier. They spent the first year in New Rez/C4. They liked the experience overall.

On the bright side, you have a single and dont need an expensive meal plan like the other residences.

I’m still waiting on mine. Btw does anyone have problems registering for courses? I was supposed to be able to register as of yesterday june 18, but im still not able to register. i have no holds at all

Going from Douglas to Solin? You’ll be able to make the transfer no problem. It might take longer than “right now,” but there are a sufficient number of Soliners-to-be right now drying their tears that you’ll have a room in your beloved ex-factory in no time.

I got Double in C4; my 16th or 17th choice. I just wanted a single anywhere! ha.

Room change
While we endeavour to accommodate every student’s preferences, this will not always be possible. If you are unhappy with your residence hall or room assignment, you may request a room change after you have moved in and have had a chance to see what your hall/room is really like.

Room change requests will be accepted as of September 15, but please note that no hall or room change requests will be processed until all students in temporary rooms have been moved to their permanent rooms. The cost associated with Hall/Room Change is $100.00.

I’ve officially decided that I’ll be living off-campus after all (I canceled my residence application). Best wishes to those of you who are still waiting on being placed into your top choices!
