I looked on HC's website and it said that in the past, students had designed majors in international studies and Middle Eastern studies. I am interested in both of those.

I am a little worried that I won't have access to a wide variety of classes that would allow my major to be basically the same as any other offered major.

Could someone please give me some general tips?

Thanks!

Due to Holy Cross’ commitment to a liberal arts curriculum, you have a lot of freedom to take a variety of courses. Some students will choose to capitalize on this by designing their own major (a few of which you mentioned). To design your own major, you must draw from at least three different academic departments and, with the assistance of your adviser and class dean, assemble a set of 11 or 12 courses and write a proposal that answers why your designed major cannot be fulfilled with a major and a minor or double major.

The list of previously student-designed majors are there to show that it is very possible to do this, in addition to taking electives and fulfilling your Core Distribution Requirements. Although you cannot simply copy a previous student-designed major, there are blueprints to give you an idea of how to best go about it.

Hope this answers your question!
