I would agree with Khmun, I do not have a personal experience as I am only a senior in high school, though my brother's friend went to Community College. He basically had high aspirations, and just barely got enough credits to make it into UCSD. So yeah, he got into UCSD from a community College, but the environment did not pressure him, and he is just an unmotivated student struggling in UCSD's hard courseload now.

UCR from my brother's point of view is a great school. It is ranked in the top 90 colleges in the Nation, mind the bashers of the school. He went to UCSC because he too messed up during High School but was smart. UCSC is around the same as far as competition goes, it is just a much prettier environment. He said he was able to find a good group of people to hang around with and he really enjoyed his two years before transfering. He got a 4.0 and transferred as a junior, getting into every UC he applied to, including UCB, UCLA, and UCSD.

Conclusion: Do what I am going to do, get the college experience at UCR, Try hard, and transfer to UCB or UCLA.
