Is it possible to do pre-pharm prerequisites at Rice? Help me please?

Ok, so pharmacy is something I'm considering doing. (Although neuroscience is really my first choice - I'm just scared I'll be jobless even if I get a PhD in it). I know Rice doesn't offer a pharmacy school, but is it possible to do pre-reqs for the program there? And would I have to transfer sophomore year or could I finish all four years at Rice and then apply to a pharmacy college? Thanks in advance! :)

[Admission Requirements School of Pharmacy](http://pharmacyschool.usc.edu/programs/pharmd/pharmdprogram/admission/requirements/)

I can’t imagine any problem majoring in neuroscience and fulfilling your pham reqs at Rice. USC was the first school that came up when I googled pharm school requirements. I would guess that they’re fairly standard – but why not google a few pharmacy schools that you might want to attend after getting your undergraduate degree.

I meant to say pre-pharmacy school requirements. And I bet it wouldn’t be hard to line up pharmacy research close by …

That is a bad attitude to go in with, IMO. If you are good at what you do and are interested and take opportunities head on, you will be ok. I know neuroscience majors who have gone on to work for large corporations and research firms.

You can always go to pharmacy school afterwards. “pre-pharmacy” is the same as “pre-med”, just a set of basic bio and chem courses.

Thank-you guys so much for the help! @Antarius: Right now I’m thinking about doing neuroscience w/ Pre-Med, and then going to grad school and getting a dual MS/PhD. That way, I’ll be a doctor AND a neuroscientist. :D

Just for confirmation–you mean an MD/PhD, right? And you have options either way. Some schools offer combined PharmD programs (like Rutgers–which has a 6 year program) but there are some pharmacy-inclined people at Rice who do the prerequisites, graduate, and then apply to pharmacy programs. Plus, given how close the TMC is, you should not have any issue finding clinical research or molecular biology research to give you some initial experience.

Neuroscience at Rice is an interdisciplinary field, I think you need to major in Cog. Sci with a focus in neuroscience.

Also, you cannot major in “pre-med”. It is merely a list of courses that medical schools review and require for admission

Graciassssssssssss!
