I didn't finish IGETC in CC.
I was admitted to UCI, and yesterday in orientation one lady said something like students can finish IGETC(or partial IGETC) within the first year!!
The thing is, the GE courses(5 courses) I took at SMC was not accepted by UCI except one, despite all of them being UC transferable. So now I will have to take about 6-7 GE courses in UCI! If I finish IGETC by taking 3 more courses at SMC, I will get rid of UCI GEs!

You don’t even need to take them at SMC, you could take them at other CCs, transfer the credits to SMC, and then have SMC resend your transcript with IGETC completed to UCI.

And all this can happen after transfer? Bcuz I’m definitely enrolling for UCI.
Is it possible to enroll at UCI and a CC at the same time? Or should I do it on summers only!

I think you are supposed to get permission to enroll at UCI and CC at the same time. Ive met a good number of UCI students at CC so they do allow it or those kids are breaking the rules. Either way, I’d say if you sent in a completed igetc transcirpt they’d most likely accept it.

@CollegeDropout1: Hey Hey!
It was denied! lol The lady who I was talking to was really nice, but I was too late to send my foreign transcript so…
I was back in Iran for the past couple of weeks, didn’t have much hope for ucsd,so I sent out my transcript to uci before I leave. visited it yesterday, looks pretty good!!
What did you do? ucla or ucsd?

@bomerr: thanks for the info, I’ll start my research now I know it’s possible.

@bolandgoo Oh, you mean @bhav007 ? He ended up picking Davis. UCSD did not offer him enough financial, and it was going to take him 3 years to finish his degree. I think Davis offered him 6,000$ more in aid, and more of his classes transferred over.

Yeah him! Interesting tho! will he able to finish in 2 years in UCD? I’ve came from CC with 63 units only, and no IGETC. It will definitely take 3 years for me, either in UCI or UCSD or etc.

We should just keep in touch and talk about our experience in each of these mid-tier UCs, and see who will end up with a better job at the end LOL

From personal experience attending UCI I feel you will work just as hard at a mid-tier school but not get as much respect as the top tier schools.

That sucks about the credits, but you could try and do online classes through a CC that articulate. I recommend College of the Canyons and their online classes if you are allowed to. The online classes I’ve taken (always research the professor) have all been a breeze and a good learning experience.

@bolandgoo, I forgot, but it was like 2.5 years at UCSD and like 2 years at UCD or something. But, I decided to go to UCD also because it was closer as well. A bunch of little things that I factored in made me choose UCD oer UCSD (collegetown feel, closer, i have a cousin I’m really cool with who goes there, offered me a bit more money).

Is it possible that I take GE courses in UCI that are transferable to SMC, and then get my IGETC by he end of the year?!
I have only one year to get my IGETC after transfer, and If I take only 3 courses from SMC, I will finish IGETC; therefore I won’t need to finish UCI’s GE requirement which is a pain in the ass!
So, I was wondering if it would be possible to get those three GE courses at UCI, instead of SMC or other CCs?
Thoughts?
