is it possible to get financial aid or scholarship from private schools like NYU.

hi people, i'm currently in a community college(cheapest way to get credits that u need) right now, but soon have to transfer to some university to get my undergrad. i was wondering whether or not it's possible to get financial aid or scholarships from private schools like NYU, MIT, Wharton ect. In fact my parents have low income and i'm hoping if i would get at least haft of the tuition covered by financial aid and scholarship, i could pay the rest by myself without taking loans. Thanks!

Is it possible to get financial aid or scholarship from private schools? Yes.

... like NYU? No.

Hehe sorry for the dig, but NYU has notoriously bad financial aid. It doesn't hurt to apply still, but don't expect money from them. MIT and Penn have much better financial aid. I don't know about financial aid for transfers, though, but if you're looking at schools with the caliber of MIT and Penn, many similar schools have pretty good financial aid policies. Look around.

Sure, you can get aid from the schools that meet need for all students which includes Penn and MIT, not to mention other very top colleges.

It's hard for transfers at many privates as there is little merit aid available and most don't promise to meet need like NYU.

The problem is that those that do meet need are the hardest in the Country to get into, and harder for transfers than freshmen, so have an affordable backup like a state school. As a Wharton grad and interviewer for Penn, I've never seen a CC transfer to Wharton--it's usually kids from other 4 year business programs who have the necessary prereqs and internal Penn transfers.
