Is it possible to get in-state tuition this way?

Hello guys, right now I am at the period in life where I am evaluating all of my college acceptances and decisions.

I am an out-of-state student, but I would like to find some way to make my time at Berkeley relatively cheaper. If in my first year, my parents buy a house in California and declare Californian residency and pay Californian taxes, would I be able to pay in-state tuition rather than out-of-state tuition for my second, third, and fourth year at Berkeley?

Simply buying a house in CA isn’t enough. There’s a physical presence test. Your parents need to demonstrate that they actually live in CA (e.g., they’re employed there)

Your parents had better read the residency brochure very carefully. you can find a pdf online. CA is pretty strict. When they admit OOS students it is to get the tuition surcharge mainly.
