is it possible to get in unc being OOS and having low sats scores

do you know any1 OOS with low sats scores if so what were there scores and did they have everything else good... talking about students not on a athletic deal

Depends on how “low” is.

Yes, but they had high ACT scores.

I could have sworn someone here mentioned that there was an OOSer with a really high 1700 score–almost 1800. I think that’s the lowest I’ve heard of and probably very rare.

yes it is def possible b/c i had a 1750 and i got in oos. BUT i had other really good thngs going for me high gpa, good essays, and recs etc. Just do the best you can i’m a good example (and i’m sure there’s others) that a bad sat score cant completely break you.
good luck :)

were you a minority? so you think its worth applying? and have a possible shot

I’m dealing with the exact same thing… I have a low SAT score (1590, but am retaking it) and I’m also out of state… So I’m hoping my grades/leadership/EC/recs will help me out…

I wish your luck. I got a 1680 my first time and an 1870 my second time 2 months later with no prep. I’m sure that with some hard work you can get your SAT score up.

Yeah good luck kingofclifton!

Okay aigiqinf…creepy. That’s the exact same scores I got? 1680 first time. Did absolutely nothing except like 2 sections of a practice test haha. and I got an 1870 in June. yeah, but now I’m actually trying to get it up.

I’ve heard of people getting in OOS with relatively low SAT scores, but they’ve usually had some pretty great stuff outside of test scores & school. I know a girl who is technically in-state, but goes to a prep school in Boston. She got in the 1500s on her SAT, and got into Carolina. By the way…I’m talking 1500/2400. I was absolutely in SHOCK. She’s Native American, but I mean…still. Crazy. It can definitely happen.

I can assure you that being Native American is the main driver behind her admission…and being in-state sealed the deal. Native American is the #1 URM and virtually guarantees admission anywhere. Without that status, there would be ZERO hope of admission with a 1500/2400 for an OOS student ( I’m not even sure a recruited athlete but maybe it would be the one exception) and very little hope for instate unless another category of URM.
