Is it possible to get into Yale with...

3-4 B's and B +'s but the rest A's in mostly honors/AP classes?

sure .

i got in with 1 B and 8 B+'s so yea it is possible.

Bump. Anyone else?

dude, i had like a 3.7 and got in. Its not the grades.

Show your intelligence. Show your passion. Show your potential. Wear your admitted students 2011 bulldog shirt.

I hope it's not the grades. Everyone says that passion and leadership are the most important aspects, (and luckily I have both), but...the info sess guy was talking about how the admissions committee compares you to people who have gotten in before...and academically, i can't compare.

so biz17,wrathofgod, and other yalies, what do you think got you in?

The brownies I sent to the ad comm....and the bribes...and blackmail...and threats.

I think my leadership positions also had some sway.

I think my ECs got me in, specifically my research and community service. My local admissions coordinator wrote me a note on my acceptance letter saying she liked my community service and Intel and Siemens Semifinalist awards and also how I was loyal to Yale (I was deferred and sent in a couple updates stressing how Yale was my #1 choice)

i had 8 Bs.. just get something to make up for it

It all depends, theres a lot more factors, which exclude just grades. Such as rec letters, essays, ec's, race(believe it or not), legacies, ect.

Oh, i forgot to mention that I'm only a student, and the admissions process is unknown to any/evryone.

5 Bs, got in :)

what are specifically research and community service you did?

I want to know the same thing as notfadeaway because I'm not exactly sure what everyone means by "research". How does a high schooler perform research? Sorry if this is a dumb question.

piggyback off of that question...
will they judge you on awards?
b/c I'm doing research, and spending a lot of time on it. plus it's part of my internship/job. but my big 3-year project is survey-based (aka, Intel, Siemens, and the likes are not likely, no matter how well it turns out)
will they dismiss it entirely just because of no awards?

Another Piggyback! So my SAT/ACT scores are fairly crappy compared to Yale standards with a 2110 and a 31, though I do have all A's with the toughest schedule possible and 1 5 on AP World History, taking two more next month and 7 next year. So, besides retaking those standardized tests this fall before single-choice early action, I've been trying to work on hooks to get in and get the massive amounts of money to pay for it. I'm also in massive amounts of EC's, with marching and concert band (two year section leader and 1st chair all county, 2nd chair all district), running for NHS president, SGA, FCA officer, swim team (going to be captain next year), have 100 volunteer hours at Habitat for Humanity, church, freshman mentoring, and ran track. BTW, I'm a white male from a 100,000+ family (yea that sucks for getting in).

So here are my possible hooks:
-AAA Travel Challenge State Champion, going to Nationals next month
-Swimming, my times next year should be low enough to get into Yale's team
-Does living in Florida help? We are one of the dumbest states in the country!
-I've written a few essays for scholarships, plan on writing more, do those help if you win (i.e. Idea of America, Dupont Challenge, AFSA Essay Contest)?
-What about research competitions? I'm going to put something together for the Young Epidemiology Scholarship, and the chances of winning that are higher than Intel, but it still gives out a lot of money...
-Really strong all-around

What should I work on here? Do I need to worry about my SAT/ACT scores a whole bunch, or should I focus my time on winning these essay contests and other scholarship awards? And does that whole athletic Ivy League rule help? (I saw something about that on this forum somewhere...)

I have a nearly similar question for you guys.
Hum, my grades in the sophomore year sucked ( if compared with my peers. Their GPA is stellar ). But the junior year ( currently ), there have been a significant improvements in my grades. Does this dazzle admission officers ? ( eps Yale cuz I really love Yale ). I still wonder because my grades are getting better and better, but if they are compared with thoes of my fellows, they will be no longer that impressive. ( the best student here gets 94/100 in her grades, and mine may be just around 84 or 85/100. Hey, I forgot to mention that we are inter students with completely different education system. However, I think Yale has become more attuned to it cuz there were a host of applicants my HS this year ). So what do you think ?
Anybody has experience in this stuff, please share me your experiences and give a few advice ! Much appreciation !!!

bump...Can anybody help me with this query ?

Sorry to be a bearor of bad news, but bro your chance is quite slim, considering Yale is the hardest ivy to get into

But I could be wrong :P

rabban-

who were you talking to??
