Like, let's say I want to order a few pounds of unsweetened chocolate from amazon, and I want it to get to me (in my dorm). Do colleges have a way of dealing with delivered packages for students?

There’ll be a mailroom and you’ll have a mailbox you can address stuff too, and you just go and collect it.

The only direct-to-dorm delivery is probably pizza/takeout.

ah great. Do you think they’re big enough to be a makeshift pantry?

Depends. My dorm is set up in a suite-like configuration, so my suitemates and I turned our small hallway closet into a pantry. The size of your dorm room also depends on the college.

I think that when it comes to big packages, you get an email notification telling when your package arrived so you can come pick it up, because there’s no way they can fit inside those tiny mailboxes. Smaller packages (if they fit) and regular mail will be put in the mailbox.

^ ah that makes sense. looks like everything will probably work out just fine. Thanks for the replies!

There will definitely be some sort of system set up for you to get packages.

Oh yea, I had packages delivered me whenever I ordered something online. Good times They put a “package waiting for you” slip into my mailbox and I took the slip to the mail office which was in the front of my dormitory building. Gave them the slip, they gave me the original copy of the slip to sign (verifying I had received the package) and then gave me the package. It’s like a FedEx delivery (or is it UPS that requires a signature?..not sure)

I order things online frequently (probably more than I should :P). I’ve ordered books, a digital keyboard, clothing, everything just gets sent to the mailroom and I get a little slip in my mailbox, or an email, telling me to pick up my package. Your school should have a similar system.

oh yeah - good point about signatures. thankfully none of the things I order regularly require them.

Amazon prime is free for the first year as a student. You get free 2 day shipping as long as the item is eligible for Amazon prime. great deal!

It’s only free for the first 6 months now.

Yeah, but Amazon Student is only $40 after that, for a whole year, and it includes Prime shipping. Totally worth it IMO.
