Is it possible to receive a scholarship during the first year at SVA?

Is it possible to receive a scholarship during the first year? Even though I was not recommended for Silas H. Rhodes Merit Scholarship or Chairman’s Merit Award. Because basically the debt I calculated until the 4th year will cost me about... a certain high amount of money.... :(

SVA is a for-profit school, so I’m sure scholarships would be limited, especially for a freshman. That doesn’t suggest there are none. But, you would probably have to work your arse off to get that scholarship :/

So you really don’t know. But does anyone know what this is then? Could I still possibly receive that? or was that too late and sent out already.

"Chairman’s Merit Award
Award Description: Merit based award available to first-year undergraduate students enrolled on a full-time basis, minimum 12 credits per semester. "

Did you receive your financial aid package in the mail? If you did and there was no notice of it, you probably did not get anything for the award. That award is given to people who are first time transfers and freshman, so unless you decide to attend a different school and transfer, I don’t believe you would be considered for it again. :/

However, if this happens to be the case, you could always call up the school and ask for another chance to be re-evaluated (describe your situation, request an interview, write up an essay, etc.). It may not be too late since the school is on a rolling admission basis.

Yea… but I read one must have a 3.0 GPA which I didn’t have. So I’m guessing that is what caused me to not receive financial aid. Although I had a 2080 SAT but SVA doesn’t look at SAT scores when I applied back in January. There’s so much debt… It’s really stressing me out.

Yeah, you would only be considered if you had a 3.0 average. However, you received no financial aid whatsoever? As in no need-based (aid you get from filling out FAFSA)?

No I received financial aid. $5,550 and some grants from the school and Federal Direct Sub/unsub Stafford Loan which I have no idea what is.

Loans don’t really count since you have to pay them back with interest (Just at a lower rate than most other loans). If the debt is that bad, I think you should consider taking your first year elsewhere at a cheaper school and then transferring once you get your grades up. You would save a lot more money that way. That is, unless you desperately want to attend from your first year and you believe you can cope with the debt afterwards.
