I’m just about to finish off my sophomore year. My plans are to major in bio and go to med school to study psychiatry. I go to a university in NYC which is known for their rigor in their science and math courses. Freshman year I was at this NYC school and for Chem 1 I earned a C. I took a gap semester at a Long Island school and took bio and got an A. I transferred back to the NYC school and my science and math courses are Bio I, Chem II and Calc. I see myself hovering around the C to B- range with these classes based on my grades. I’m kicking it into full gear now, but as I mentioned, it wont be enough to bring these grades in any realm of an A. If I show improvement in my grades the next 2 years will that be enough for medical school? I have very good EC’s and oddly enough, when I do practice sections of the MCAT on bio and chem I barely get any wrong.
Obviously anything is possible but you do not want to leave it up to chance. The classes that you get the Cs in you might want to retake during summer semester even if one at a time.It will help raise your GPA but also show that you can do the work and are interested
Here is what I see your GPA, since your GPA is not provided. Lets say you have 132 total credits and 12 credits are C and rest of them are As, so 142x4+2x12 =504, 504/132=3.8 you are still contender with a 220+ Mcat. I am sure the reality is not that. However, if you get all As in the next two years, you will have a chance.
What is your current GPA and when are you going to take the MCAT is the real question.
