I want to self-study AP Calculus BC as a necessary prerequisite for physics in one month. I would not be able to take the course, because I am not in a high enough grade. I know some of the content, but there is a lot left to learn.
If it is possible and manageable for a fast learner, what would be an effective way to do this? Any recommended books or online material?
Thanks.
@404PhysicsKid AP exams are only given once a year, this year it’s on Tuesday May 14th so you several months to study for it. https://apcentral.collegeboard.org/courses/exam-dates-and-fees/2019-exam-dates
You only need the Calc AB part of Calculus (differentiation and integration) to fully function for AP Physics C. And more of the calculus will be for E&M, not so much for Mechanics. It’s probably doable thru a place like Khan.
One issue that I see with this: The only students who are likely to be capable of doing this are students who are very good at math. However, those students are likely to go into STEM fields. For any of the “TEM” part of STEM, and for physics, you need to be really good at both algebra and calculus. It should be more like tying you shoes rather than like solving a really hard puzzle. You need to be quite solid on the concepts and the details.
I think that calculus is important enough that it is worth the time to take the class. You can wait until you are either a senior in high school or even a university freshman to take calculus and calculus-based physics.
You might be able to do this. I am just not sure that it is worth it.
