Is it possible to start early during summer at UC? I want to take one or two classes during summer just to get a head start

According to the UC Berkeley Geography department info for transfers, yes, it is possible to take classes in the summer before your first fall semester. They even recommend it if it will give you a head start on the major or help fulfill a pre-req that wasn't available at a CCC. However, I don't know what other majors or other UCs allow.

wow sweet are you planning to do that?

and what about ucla? anyone knows?

All of the UC's allow you to go to their summer sessions. You can even go to another UC for the summer and transfer the courses to your own UC. I am going to do it...head start!

according to the TAP conference I went to for UCLA, the student speaker said he did it and he recommended it so i bet theres a summer session

yeah, UC summer session is very possible. i would never do it though, lol.

i figured out my schedule for the next two years so i don't ever have to take summer school again... given that i don't fail any classes during the regular year, lol.

I'm hoping to take summer classes at UCLA if they let me in. It will be really expensive to take 15 units, though . . .

No, I'm actually going to be working full time through the summer to save more money before quitting my job. But I might if they were offering the class(es) that I want/need to take - they're not.

haha xleper, did you do that for all UC's you applied or just UCLA?

pretty much all of the UC's, since I only applied to 4 of them.

i know, my friends and parents laughed at this too. i just don't want to take a 5th year. if i get out of the UC in two years, then my dad will give me the money left over for my UC. I can either invest it, save it or... spend it!

spend it in the sense that I can take a gap year between undergrad and grad, so I can figure out what i want to do. not live at home, obviously. i dream of taking root in NY for a bit, living with friends that are roommates. maybe england. go live with a friend in Cornwall and become a teacher's aide at the school she teaches at.

final option is to go to Nepal for 6 months, at most, and go back to teaching at an orphanage....

anyways, lots of ideas. but figuring out my course listings is not too hard. just read the course catalogs and see what you need to take to graduate.

i know in the acceptance packet for UCSB they have their transition summer program and it seems like a good idea. too bad i won't be home this summer.

Summer sessions are very expensive. A waste of money if you ask me. Just take more units during the regular school year to fulfill the requirements.

Some programs might highly encourage summer session participation for transfer students. This allows the transfer students an opportunity to take a course required as a prerequisite for a course that is only offered in the fall. Allowing the student to stay on track to graduate. I only advise that you pass these summer courses. Since you aren't admitted until the Fall theses summer courses could have an effect on your admissions; also be sure to notify the campus admissions office that you are completing any courses over the summer that weren't on your application update.
