Hello, I'm currently in a double and my roommate has been getting under my skin this entire semester. This semester has been a nightmare and I can say the roommate situation is the largest factor currently. It's gradually gotten worse and without spilling personal details, I've about had it and really wish I could fix my mistake and switch to a single dorm.

I'm a bit confused on if that's even a possibility and if it is, how I go about it/how much it costs. If anyone could help the sooner the better! Thanks!

It is possible, but it rarely happens. I can’t remember the exact process and a quick search of the RPS website didn’t tell me much, so I would call RPS and ask them what the process is. It may suck, but due to the tight ratio of students to available rooms they don’t allow a lot of students to switch. At most, you’ll just move into another double, as singles are a hot commodity and there are rarely any available at the end of the first semester unless someone drops out entirely.

Room switches are coming down the pipe soon. Bother your RA until they can tell you when and where the forms will be.

See pages 4 and 7 of this document for info on how to change rooms. You can change rooms effective spring semester, but the document gives the impression that you can also change now if you have a serious enough problem.
