I was just wondering, but if one applied to a certain school within Rice for Interim Decision, can he or she ask Admissions to switch schools and resubmit that essay that states "With the understanding that the academic school you chose is not binding, explain why you are applying to that school of study"?

and if so, has it ever been done before successfully? Would it jeopardize one's chances of admission?

i wouldn't recommend that. it shouldn't affect your chances that much (unless you are talking arch or music), and you can switch schools at Rice immediately provided you get in.

yes; but if you think that applying to one school will increase your chances than to another school, you're wrong. Rice admissions carefully reviews your applications, and if there's an aberration in anything, the experienced reviewers will be able to read your intentions. Best of luck!

Very true. I'm pretty sure the Adcom has seen all the tricks in the book, so don't try and pull anything! From another point of view, a ton of students apply to UT's School of Social Sciences, or whichever one the easiest one is to get into and once they get in, they transfer to engineering, business, etc. Don't do that with Rice! They will find out through the special powers which makes them Rice. :) Honesty is the best policy.

At Rice, it's really easy to switch schools once you are in. They are pretty flexible and open about that.
