Hello all,
I am currently creating a 4 year plan for high school (I am a freshman right now). I have 12 AP courses right now, but the one AP course I actually want to do (environmental science) can not fit on here. However, I am able to create space in my schedule if I put AP Macro over the summer. I was thinking I can do this because AP Macro is just a semester course. Also, my high school requires students to do consumer economics or AP Macro, so I have to do AP Macro.
Anything is possible. However, it goes without saying that in doing so, you’ll have to do extensive review given that there’s 9 months to go until the AP exam. However, more importantly.
That’s fine, but do it in pencil. Classes get added/dropped; scheduling conflicts happen, etc.
Even for the most competitive colleges, the law of diminishing returns kicks in after 6-8 AP’s. Which is not to say you can’t take more, but simply taking additional AP’s will do little to enhance your application. Taking 12 AP’s is fine as long as doing so does not tank your GPA, or leave you with so much HW that you can’t develop any meaningful EC’s.
Good luck.
Ah scratch that can not do AP courses over summer Do you guys think taking consumer economics instead of AP Macro will tank my GPA because I have to take one or the other. If I take consumer economics, I get room for AP environmental science !
The effect of one non-honors/AP course on a 4 year GPA is akin to a pimple on an elephant’s butt. Many students, whether by choice or due to HS requirements, take art, music, theater, PE, health, religion, etc., which few HS’s weight It’s not a game changer at all.
