Is it possible to take IB 132 lecture and then MCB 32 lab?

So I'm taking MCB 102 over the summer and thought to also add IB 132 lecture. That already there is 7 units and 102 is suppose to be hard. For a pre-req into professional school I also need a Physiology lab and since 132L is soooo hard to get into I was wonder if It would be okay to take 32L. I assume MCB 32 and IB 132 teach similar material and whatever doesn't overlap wont affect my performance in lab that much especially after taking Bio 1A.

I am pretty sure they don’t let you. IB 132L is a very easy class, it is just hard to get into.

If you wake up early on Feb 1st or whenever TeleBEARS starts, you should be able to get into 132L.

I know I can take 132L over the summer, but as you can see I already am taking 7 units and MCB 102 is suppose to be hard (I assume so now since its a new prof). I feel taking MCB 102, IB 132 and IB 132L is a bit too much and I have other plans next summer…I hate berkeley -___-

Why don’t you take IB 132 this spring and MCB 102/IB132L over summer?
MCB 102 is actually very easy over summer. You’ll need to put in a fair amount of work, but it’s nothing like it is during the school year.

oh wait, i just saw summer schedule. urnov is teaching 102 in summer?! he’s supposed to be hard so i don’t know how hard it will be…

I wanted to take IB 132 in the spring, but lecture conflicts with Chem 3B and I heard it is necessary to go to Pederson’s lectures to do well in the class.

I was just gonna ask this. k. i need to take this. i thought 2010 summer schedule doesn’t come out til january.

How does bio1a compare to ib131/l ib132/l?..

I’m taking a class in the fall that needs MCB 102. I might as well just face the fact that I will spend all my three summers at Berkeley taking summer school -___-

Just saw ur summer schedule post leftist. ur always on ur toes on these telebears stuff. etc…

Hmm. I need to take mcb102 in the summer too. it’s either math16b or mcb102. same here 3 summers @ berkeley.
are you a moltox major. 2012? o.o

Yeah I am. Dude we both took NST 11 in the spring. So amazing made me switch…oh and getting an A in the class helped make my decision too hahaha. For moltox I guess we only need a physio or microbio lab so I guess I will take 162L, but I also need 132L fro pharmacy school. Gaahhh wish I had come to Berkeley a couple years ago. My friend who is c/o 2009 was MCB and back then she could get into 132L and 131L as an MCB major w/o summer school…oh how the budget went to **** so quickly.

Yeah she had to take both for optometry school. I even thought about doubling with IB just to get into those labs. IB 132/L and 131/L are so integral for optometry, pharmacy, PA and nursing that it for sure will increase the number of IB majors…or a lot of ****ed off summer school people hahaha

can’t you declare double, sign up for those classes, take them, and “realize” you can’t finish the double?

what. nice… ur pre-pharm too?.. this is weird… are you my twin?

Wow and we were both in Bio 1AL section 106 with Vedita…more like the same person :O

yea…are we the same person?

For MCB, cancelling the double would be pointless, given that you would already be taking 131/L and 132/L (10 units) and that MCB 102/C100A and MCB 104/140 would already count for an IB elective and an IB group A (Genetics and Evolution). This would make 18/24 IB units. You would really only need 6 more IB units (pretty much just two courses, one of which would have to be a Group B)

Note: the above is referring to the IB: Human Biology and Health Sciences major, not the general one.

anon5389567, what do you mean by Human Biology and Health Sciences major? I heard that IB was changing some requirements and I would like to receive some clarification on that, please.

there will be two new majors

IB: Ecology, Evolution, and Organismal Biology
and
IB: Human Biology and Health Sciences

Ecology, Evolution, Organismal biology, Human biology and Health sciences were always based in IB, it is just now they are slightly formalizing the tracks

Here is a summarized form of the UD requirements
the E,E,OB track requires
1 Group A (Genetics and Evolution) (this is basically the current genetics requirement, but now you can use IB 160, 161, or 169 for it)
2 Group B (this is just Area 1 renamed)
1 Group C (this is just Areas 2 and 3 fused and renamed)
2 Electives
-2 of the above have to have lab/field components. At least one must have a field component

the HB,HS track requires
1 Group A (Genetics and Evolution) (this is basically the current genetics requirement, but now you can use IB 160, 161, or 169 for it)
1 Group B (this is just Area 1 renamed)
2 Group C (this is just Areas 2 and 3 fused and renamed) (at least one of these must be 131 or 132)
2 Electives
-2 of the above have to have lab/field components.

Electives for both tracks can come out of other departments (e.g. MCB, ESPM, PMB, etc.)

they said they would put up the new track information on the website on Dec. 5th, but they lied. Anyways, they have fliers outside the IB office summarizing this change.

How hard is MCB 102 over summer? How much time do you have to commit to it outside of class?
