Is it possible to transfer into CGS?

I am in the class of 2017 and was accepted into CAS as a math major. My problem is that I only chose math just because and I am not sure right now that I want to be a math major. Is it possible to transfer into CGS from CAS? It is still summer so it’s not like classes have started and I’d be behind. CGS is also closer to my dorm (west campus) than CAS. Do you think it would be worth it or even possible to try and switch into CGS?

If you really want to transfer to CGS and it is before the start of the school year, you can probably do this as long as you do this before you arrive on campus in late August. However, you may want to think about this before you make this request. Are you concerned about committing to a major? You don’t have to officially declare a major until the end of your sophomore year. If you know you no longer want to major in math, then I suggest you call the Advisors at CAS and say that you want to be an undeclared major. By doing so, you will be assigned an advisor who can help you identify your strengths and interests and assist in the choosing to classes. Have you been to orientation yet? If not, you should speak to somebody there when you go to switch your choice. My son did this at orientation. He had planned to major in Political Science but switched to Math. If you have already picked your classes I would contact immediately the Office of Academic Affairs/Advising to state your concerns and request.

Don’t worry about your housing location vs where your classes will be held. Like high school, you will be going to classes during the day and then returning to your dorm once they are done. As a BU resident, you can eat at any of the dining areas so that you don’t have to go back to your dorm to eat. Also, once you get used to the walk, it won’t seem like a long distance at all. When I was a student at BU, I lived at Danielsen at 512 Beacon and all my classes we near West Campus. I used the walk as part of my daily exercise regime and if it was poor weather I took the T or the shuttle. It’s really not a big campus, once you get used to it.

I wish you luck with your decision. I think your best bet would be to initially talk with an advisor with CAS.

Don’t try and switch into CGS-call and ask to be made undeclared as the above poster said. You have to take a bunch of general requirements freshman year anyway.

Also, the walk from West to CAS is not terrible-consider it exercise.
