Hi, I was wondering if it is possible to change majors -especially to Kelly -School of Business? If it is possible, when can I do it? I applied as Class of 2016 and got accepted as 'sociology' major. I still don't know or whether I'm still not sure which major I want to take in college! It would be great if some of you who are IU students could tell me! Thanks

Do you have any of the following?

-1270 SAT CR+M
-3.7 GPA
-Top 10%

If you don’t have any of those, then there’s nothing you can do at this point. You will apply for admission to Kelley next Spring.

If you have at least one of them, take the following steps immediately.

Call the office of admissions ASAP and change your official major to pre-business.

Start working on petitioning for Direct Admission to Kelley. You can get the application here: [Future IU Freshmen: Admissions: Undergraduate Program: Kelley School of Business: Indiana University Bloomington](<a href=“Undergraduate | Bachelor's Degree in Business | Indiana Kelley”>Undergraduate | Bachelor's Degree in Business | Indiana Kelley) The deadline is April 1st, and you would probably need pretty good stats to get accepted this late, but being a DA as a freshman will make life so much better.

So how does it work? I mean so if you meet the criteria you can get direct admit but if you don’t you would have to apply for Fall of 2013? Does this mean that by any chance if I want to change majors at IU, I have to go to Undergrad for 5 years instead of 4? How does this work? Thanks!

Not being a direct admit will not delay your graduation at all. You would still take essentially the same business classes as the direct admits. The only difference is that you have to apply at the end of the year to officially be a business major. Getting all B’s (not b-'s) in every one of your classes will guarantee you admission, and anything below a B damages your chances severely.

You can go to this page and read about standard admission: [Future IU Freshmen: Admissions: Undergraduate Program: Kelley School of Business: Indiana University Bloomington](<a href=“Undergraduate | Bachelor's Degree in Business | Indiana Kelley”>Undergraduate | Bachelor's Degree in Business | Indiana Kelley)

You applied as a sociology major which is in the COAS. Since very few freshman are direct admits to any particular school or college, they are classified as “University Division.” Chances are you are in the “University Division.” Most future Kelley students are also University Division. Essentially you and many freshman will be taking general requirements during freshman year. If you decide to be a business major, you will apply as the post above says. If you have the scores and grades, it would be an advantage to be a direct admit to Kelley rather than apply later.

IU will let you change your major at any time in your career, but it’s easier to do earlier in your career. You will be less likely to need additional classes that lead to a fifth year.

rrah, direct admits now make up 60% of the incoming class, compared to 50% in 2008, per the latest Businessweek survey and the 2008 survey. So only 40% of the last class got in from the University Division. It gets more difficult every year to get in regular admission, as the number of available slots falls and the same time more high achieving students are applying compared to past classes.

Thanks Bthomp. I didn’t realize the numbers were currently that high. Kelley is generally not on my radar except for what I read here or is in the news.
