My D is a strong writer but runs out of time when trying to do 3 exs.
Has anyone deviated from the 3 ex rule and scored 10 or better?
Comment please. Thanks and good luck to all.

haha! i just started a thread just like this.......i have the same question.....read my thread

where is it?

Here was my question:

Whats the best way to get an 11 or 12 on the SAT essay, in terms of how many examples you use? Princeton review, which i just finished taking, states 3, but when i did that, i consistently got 8/9. When i read CollegeBoard's suggestion on 1 or 2 in depth, i used that method, and got a 10. What do you think?

Would using 1 example really in depth, or 2 slightly less in depth due to space be more beneficial? Definitely not 3?

I used only one (didn't know we were supposed to use 3) and I got a 10.

hm.....and you know wats so stupid, CB grades a 12 on an essay that uses personal experiences, when PR "strongly advises against it"....THIS IS RETARDED! I DONT KNOW WHO TO BELIEVE

I plan on using one and at most two. A high score means you support your position very well, making good points very clearly. I find it very hard to use three.

That just means that it's harder for most people to use personal experiences effectively...if you can pull it off, by all means go for it...if not, stick to history, art & literature, which are easier points

OK, ill probably use 2

Running out of time is not a biggie at all. Correctors are only suppose to correct what you have.

Therefore, I only got to 2.5 examples in my essay without a concluding paragraph and I got a score of a 10.

But I didnt care at all because I got a 800 in Writing.

I think 2-3 is best. However, if you are a good writer, you could bring out one example (but definitely should take up 3 paragraphs). However, make sure you do work on diction as well. I might have not finished, but I spent time on adding "jittery" words like replacing "bad king" with "vile despot". It makes the essay sound much more professional.

What if you have three examples but suddenly you realize that you're out of run and can only fit two or even one? What do you do?
