Is it possible to get into Penn CAS (ED), Harvard, Cornell, or JHU with my 3.6 GPA? For the past year, I've been purposely ignoring this factor, thinking that if I did well junior year and forgot about my first two years, all would work out for me. I had an epiphany tonight when I saw 83% of Penn's accepted applications had a GPA of 3.75-4.0 and only 8% were in the 3.5-3.74 range (and I'm on the low side of that range). Basically, I screwed up my first two years of high school due to personal issues (I explained them in my Harvard supplement and hopefully I'll have my guidance counselor write about them for the rest of my schools) and I got ~3.3-34 GPA (not entirely sure). My junior year I got serious with my academic, and I got a 3.96 UW. This year I'm even more serious and I'm anticipating a 4.0 UW senior year. My total GPA however remains around 3.6 (it ranges depending on the college's way of finding high school GPA).

Do I have any shot at these schools? I have so much regret, you have no idea....I'm only in the Top 8% of my class and I should be valedictorian...

33/415. My rank after freshman and sophomore year was 72/425, so I moved up 39 places in one year. I’ve amazed all of my friends with that :P

SAT: CR - 660, M - 790, W - 620 (8 Essay) 2070/2400, 1450/1600. Anticipating in the October sitting: CR - 700+, M - 770+, W - 680+ (10 essay)

Subjects: Literature - 660, US History - 710. Anticipating in the November sitting: 700+ on Literature, 740+ on US History, and an 800 on Math II

My anticipated score claims are qualified since I’ve been averaging between 670-800 on the Critical Reading section in practices and 66-75 range on the Writing MC.

I’ve received a lot of praise and a few critiques on my essays, but I have a feeling that my final drafts will all be excellent. My Letters of Recommendations should be outstanding.

Possibly at JHU/Cornell. However, you probably won’t get into either. You have seen the stats yourself. If I were you I would still apply to JHU/Cornell. Do not bother applying to Harvard. I know you might think “there is no harm in trying,” but there actually is… You could spend that time applying to a top school within your range. It is nice to see that you’re making a change.

Good luck on your senior year schedule and on your college applications.
