Is it possible

Hey guys I'm planning to take the SATS soon. Okay well not so "soon", maybe the end of the year or early next year. It was kind of a last minute desicion and...long story short I haven't gotten used to this sat thing. I.e I'm new to this thing. Do you think that after 6-8months of preparation, is it possible to get a score of 2100+? I know I sound way off but I mean can I?

Nobody can really answer that but you. There are kids that barely study and do very well and kids who need all the study they can get.

If you’ve taken the most rigorous course load at your school then you should do well. If you’ve excelled in AP English and AP Calc AB and/or BC, you’ll do well. In my experience, the kids with the highest scores rarely shock me. They are the kids with the 4.8 weighted GPAs, ranked in the top 10-20 percent of their class and show leadership and involvement in school. Rarely is it the “C” student with the hidden genius.

For do-it-yourself SAT prep, start here: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/sat-preparation/68210-xiggis-sat-prep-advice.html

Maybe try taking a course… I have friends who it helped and friends who it didn’t, so it really depends.
Probably the best thing you can do is buy an SAT prep book and just practice as much as you can. The SAT isn’t really an aptitude test, it really just tests how well you know the specific things it asks you about, so practice is the best method.

Take a diagnostic test first to determine your baseline without prep.

If you are at or around 1800+, 2000+ is not unreasonable.

However, if your starting score is lower than that, you might want to consider the ACT.

Madaboutx- I totally agree. It is all up to me. I feel like maybe with these 8 and 9 months of preparation it can be done because ,like you said, I have friends who study for the sats in like a week and still produce a sat score of 1500+. I mean not that I’ll emulate what my they did but just to be on the safe side, I’ll just study for it in these next few months! Haha yeah I guess you could say I took a rigorous course in school. A Cambridge course. But yeah I agree on that too. Thanks so much madaboutx! :)

Happymomof1- thank you so much for the information! I really appreciate it :)

Kparcell- really? Wow I didn’t know that! Because i thought courses could help everyone on their weak spots for the sats! But thanks for the advice! I will start doing that! Thanks so much kparcell! :)

Preply- where can I find a diagnostic test website? Oh okay hopefully I’ll get an 1800+! Haha thanks a lot preply! :)

If you have good logic, are available to study in the summer, and ARE DETERMINED, then yes… you can reach your goal. I did not study the first time I took my SAT (I also don’t think it helped that I was sick when I took mine) and got a 1900. Personally I think that score doesn’t reflect my abilities, so I’m getting ready to take it again. My advice to you is one that may seem obvious but is crucial to doing well: do as many practice tests as you can handle, and then some. Get the official blue book from the College Board and take the practice tests from there. I would suggest to firstly, before anything, take a practice test from the book without studying and then grade yourself. This will give you a good idea of where you stand, and from there you can work out the rest. Signup for College Board’s question of the day and do those as well just for extra practice. Remember that this site is a great resource and includes links where you can find explanations to official blue books exams.

Good luck!

Hey mash101 yeah I’m available to study for it in the summer and I am determined but not to sure about good logic though! Haha whoa! Congratulations!! Don’t worry I’m sure you’ll do well second time round! Okay I’m starting to get a clear picture now of what I’m supposed to do. I will do just that! Haha Thanks so much mash101 for your help! All the best to you too! :)

Here’s something else that might help.
