Is it possible?

So I am currently a freshmen taking geometry im wondering if it’s possible to end up taking AP Calc BC my senior year. on the road I am on now I will take AP Calc AB my senior year. I’m pretty sure that my school has AB as a prerequisite so would it even be possible?

If AP Calc AB is a prerequisite you’re pretty much screwed, if you have a normal curriculum. A normal curriculum for you would be Geometry, Algebra 2/Trig, Pre-Calculus, then some sort of Calculus. Most traditional schools then gives you a choice between AB or BC, but there seems to be more schools nowadays that require AB first and then BC. Which sounds like your school. But you could take an online class, or take Calculus 1 and 2 at a community college instead in 12th and not take the AP Calc AB class. AOPS has a good online AP Calc BC class for example.

Quick question, would calc 1 and 2 cover more that AP calc AB and BC? I also plan to take AP stats do you think it would be better to double up on that junior or senior year? I don’t think it matters anyway since AP stats has really nothing to do with other maths. Also my best bet would probably be to take Calc 1 and 2 at a community college or maybe online

Calc 1 would cover in one semester what AP Calc AB would cover in one year, in your situation. In more traditional settings, AP Calc AB would cover 2 quarters in a quarter-based college system (A and then B).

Calc 2 would then cover the other semester, similar to what AP Calc BC would cover at your school in one year. Note once again that traditionally, AP Calc BC covers at the same speed as in college - Calc 1 and 2.

If a CC is convenient to you, given your situation I would probably recommend taking Calc 1 and Calc 2 at the CC. Just for the heck of it, in case you want to cover all your bases, you could also then sign up for the AP Calc BC exam as well. Do note that CCs probably require you to take a placement exam first so don’t forget to do that, probably some time in 11th grade.

No preference from me on when to take AP Stats. You’re possibly also better off taking a Stats class in CC since it’s also a one semester class as opposed to AP Stats which is a whole year. This assumes that the quality of teaching and level of material at a CC would be the same as an AP HS class, which may or may not be the case.

Sorry I have one more question if I would to do AP calc online would that be a full year course or semester how would that even work? And thx

It depends. I think AOPS’ Calc BC course runs from August to March if I am not mistaken, and it is the full enchilada - one whole year of college calculus. Not sure how other online Calc BC classes work.
