To transfer from one school to another after the 1st semester of freshman year? Or do you wait out the whole 1st year to transfer?

no its definitely possible but you wouldnt even have your grades in time, and you clearly wouldnt be giving your current school a chance

its possible, but at certains schools they dont allow it (only a few though) but yea I agree with defrasne

most schools strongly encourage you not to, because it would mean that you would apply before your first semester is even up. half a semester is not nearly enough time to demonstrate to them that you are now a better match for the school.

Ah I see, I was just wondering, so usually after freshman year is a good time to xfer?

while that may be true, i know someone who transferred from a SUNY school to smith after her first semester. so it can be done.

At the selective school level, many (most?) don't consider transfers for second semester freshman year.

But, if the schools you are considering for transfer do accept 2nd semester freshman transfers, it would get you going sooner in the new school - a plus. So you need to research this online first.

OTOH, as someone above said, depending on your reasons for considering transfer, you really might want to give school #1 a fighting chance.

I don't like to see kids planning a transfer before they ever arrive at school #1. But there are exceptions.

If you read the Transfer Admissions 101 sticky thread, you will get a good idea of how the timing usually works and some options.

Well I don't want anyone to get me wrong, I really want to go to Penn, but there may be personal issues in the future and I just wanted to know to be safe.
