Is it Possible?.......

Hi. I'm an incoming freshman at Johns Hopkins and was wondering if, with all the competition, I could leave with a 3.5-3.6 GPA. I'm an URM (Black) and from another thread, seem to need somewhat lower GPA/MCAT scores. I know that Johns Hopkins carries alot of weight in terms of medical school admission so I would also like to know if I could get into top medical schools (Penn, Stanford in particular) with lower scores (3.3-3.4 GPA) too. I'm looking to get at least a 35 on the MCATS.

Note: I named those two schools because I'm looking to get an MD/PhD and from research of the PhD program I'd like to get into and the research that professors at these schools are conducting really interest me. So I'm not just stating them because of the name they have.

Thanks in advice for any feedback that you guys can give. I really appreciate it.

A 3.3/35 should land you at least one Top 10 acceptance if you're a URM.

Thanks alot norcalguy for the feedback. I feel confident that I can get at least a 3.3 GPA because I'm willing to put in the hard work and long hours.

My $0.02-do as well as you possibly can (shoot for that 4.0), and don't "rely" on URM status to help you much (people think it's weighted a lot more heavily in admissions than it actually is). Good luck!

Thanks arachnophobia12. Don't worry, I'm very competitive with myself and want to do the best I can because of my personal drive not those around me. I really understand what you are saying and will try not to get locked in the mindseet of "I'm black so I can shoot lower." Everyone needs to be reminded of things sometimes. Thanks.
