Is it possible to get into the top 3 UC schools (Berkeley, ULCA, UCSD) with a bad GPA, but high SATs and other areas? I've just started senior year and because I took so many AP and honors classes that I couldn't all necessarily handle, I have a terrible 3.61 unweighted GPA, and an okay 4.3-something weighted GPA. Do people get into these schools, despite having lower GPAs like mine? I think I just ruined my chances. Thanks.

Short answer is yes, a high SAT can balance a lower GPA at a UC.

First you need to figure out your UC GPA. Then look at the average SAT scores of admits, the higher yours is compared to the average, the more it compensates. You can compare here:

[UC Admissions Statistics](http://www.ophs.opusd.k12.ca.us/uc_admissions_statistics.htm)

Your stats may be fine judging by your weighted GPA. This is not the ivies, many admits don’t have perfect grades.

This is a crazy time at UCs, and they will probably enroll fewer this year making it harder. But it’s definitely worth a try.

thanks for replying.
