Is it realistic to apply for transfer admission to these colleges?

Hi guys. I am a sophomore finance major at Missouri Southern State University. Currently, I have a 4.0 GPA.

I'm hoping to transfer to one of the following colleges: University of Richmond, Lehigh University, Dickinson College, Gettysburg College, or American University. I intend to study Arabic (through the intermediate level). mathematical economics, and Middle Eastern studies/international relations.

My "dream" career is to work as a financial transactions analyst for the Department of Treasury. I'm very interested in terrorist financing and the consequences of economic sanctions. I can also see myself working as an analyst a non-profit organization or another government agency. Therefore, I desire to attend a college somewhat close to Washington, D.C.

My main reason for wanting to transfer is to have a more traditional college experience. Missouri Southern is a commuter school and many of the students are non-traditional. I haven't made many friends and most of my classmates are only in college to get a degree.

My composite ACT score was only a 26, so I'm not going to submit it for consideration. I have a part-time job in the Academic Affairs office, I tutor international students in English, and I'm involved in my college's Finance and Economics club.

I also am looking for colleges that meet 100% percent of financial need. I know American definitely doesn't, but the location is perfect.

All of the colleges are fairly selective, so advice is appreciated! Thanks!

Anyone?

Can anyone offer insight?

If I can apply to Cornell with a 4.0 from a CC with confidence then you can certainly apply to those schools from a state school with a 4.0 GPA with confidence haha. Good luck!

4.0 GPA? I agree with @NCXfer‌ - apply anywhere that doesn’t require you to submit the ACT score.

Even at schools that do require test scores and HS transcripts for transfers, the primary focus will usually be on your performance in collegiate studies. You might even consider applying to Georgetown, which would be a reach for sure, but it’s a great school for IR and Arabic languages.

Whether you apply to or attend Georgetown or not, the Certificate in Forensic Accounting offered by their continuing education department would be a great add-on to your degree to help you get your dream job.

@DreamSchlDropout‌ I would love to go to Georgetown, but I wouldn’t think SFS admits many transfer students.

Right now, it seems like Dickinson College and Connecticut College (surprisingly) are the most realistic options. I’ve been in touch with transfer coordinators from both schools and they think I could easily pursue my interests (but of course they would).

If you transfer as a Junior with college gpa of 4.0, your SAT/ACT should not be a factor.

@artloversplus Fortunately, none of the colleges I’m applying to require it. All of the acceptance rates around 35 percent, so I’m afraid I won’t get in.

Historically the SFS transfer acceptance rates have tended to be a few points lower than the overall GU acceptance rate. So 8-15% is a likely range…reachy, but with a 4.0 I’d consider it a reach worth making.

Definitely try! 35% are pretty good odds. If you tell a convincing story about why their program is a great one for your plans–and you do have such a story–then that will increase your chances. The key is to show that school why they should accept you. Give them that hook. Best of luck. : )

I think there are full pay scholarships available to study Arabic. They require 1.5 years of Federal service for every year funded. Check them out. They may require repayment service at a specific branch of government. Do an internet search, and look into it. It would widen your school choices.
