I'll be honest, my score of 1690 is what I thought I'd get, considering I didn't prep or anything, but I'm still mentally devastated over it. Is it possible, with prep that is, to have a dramatic increase in points the second time one takes the test? I'd really like to get 2000+, hell, even 2100+, but is it feasible?

Yes, anything is possible if you set work hard enough.
How much you put in is what you get out of it.

I'm really hoping for 2000+ too, but from an 1870, though.

If you study your ass off. I got something horrible on the PSAT, like predicting a 1500 and on my SAT I got a 1830 without studying.

I'm retaking in October and aiming for 2000+ since it's my last chance. I have a ridiculous study schedule for the summer since I'm not really doing anything else.

I've been taking practice tests from the Official Study Guide, and I've been getting in the 700 range for the last few tests. Practicing REALLY helps, I've only been reviewing/doing tests for a few weeks and already I'm breaking 2100 on the practice tests. But those are just practice tests (albeit from the test maker).

I don't know if it's feasible on the real test, but for your sake and mine, I hope it is.

2000 is possible....2100 for ur score right now, I dont think it's possible....but I am

I went from a 2040 to a 2340. That's a 300 point increase. I was pretty diligent in my preparation the second time around, though.

its feasible only if you can put the time into it. but yes you can definitely do it if your initial score was a 1690. if you had a 1990 or a 2090 and wanted to go to a 2290 or a 2390, i'd say it wouldn't happen, but you have some room to work with if you study.

I got a 1780 on my first practice (February) and by the time i took the actual test (june) i got a 2100.
so yes it isnt just possible it is very possible. just gotta put in the time, and the effort.

Any of you guys who got a really big increase have any tips in terms of study schedules etc.?

its going to be tough

i'd say is definately possible. i went from 1780 (october07) to 2050 (may08)

its a 270pt increase, not 300, but i was in the same situation as you. i didnt study at all for the 1st test.

after i got my horrible score i set up a schedule for myself. I did 1 full mock test every saturday morning 8:30 and during the school week i did one 25 min section of either math/reading/writing (and checked the answer explanations etc) before doing my homework. i didn't have a tutor at all or anything, but i would ask cousins (they're college students so yeah) for help when i didnt understand the explanations.

during spring break i did 1 full mock test every other day. and on the other days i went through the test explanations and all that.

i'm not an exceptional student or anything (pretty average) so i'd attribute my score increase to hard work/motivation rather than talent/smarts (which i do not have). it's definately doable if you stick to a schedule you set for yourself...and now that its summer, you don't have school and homework looming over your head like i did. so i'd say you can get at least a 300pt increase if you put in the effort!

as for tutoring, i didn't have one. with that said, however, i had my cousins to go to for questions. if you have someone who's taken the SAT and is willing to help you with reading/math/grammar stuff that you don't know, then i think you don't need a tutor ($$$).

the bottom line is: PRACTICE. i worked my butt off in practice books.

now i'm looking to retake in the fall again and hoping for a 2150.

if you need any more advice you can pm me or something. glad to help! :)
