Today(technically yesterday) was the last day to submit my last app. I was submitting it and I realized that my clock was wrong and it was actually 12:00:30 AM. So this means I'm late right? Will this really hurt my chances? :(

Are you even serious? I submitted mines two and a half hours late tonight…sheesh

My D contacted her admissions counselor at the U she was applying to & explained the situation (she didn’t have our credit card to pay the fee & there was a time zone difference). The counselor said he’d mark her app as received on time & we think it was effective because she WAS admitted. Never hurts to contact the U & try to explain. Try not to cut it so close for future deadlines.

I don’t know if it will hurt your chances, but I applied about 5 minutes late and was accepted into Stanford early. I talked to a Princeton admission’s person who said that 10 or 15 minutes is not a big deal and they don’t even usually bother checking. Basically, I doubt it will greatly affect your chances (or effect them at all, really).

Good luck!

Thank you everyone. I really appreciate it!

I am asking this because an adcom who gave a presentation at my school told us that UC’s are fairly strict about these types of things and they don’t care if it’s a minute after deadline because it shows a lack of responsibility on your part. I was just worried that this goes for all schools.

As a rule, state universities are more bureaucratic and rules-bound. They are government entities after all. Private schools want as many reasonable applicants as they can get, and have worked hard for years to increase applications. Their bias is to count you as an applicant.
As a practical matter, schools can spend weeks pulling application materials together in one file, well into January. A few minutes or even days shouldn’t matter.
But we all have had experiences of the post office or motor vehicle department worker locking the door at quitting time as we’re coming up the stairs.
The UC rep’s response is creepy to me, but I wouldn’t put it past them.
