It’s “hard” compared to other universities in the state and most of the southeast. Clearly it’s “harder” to get accepted to Vanderbilt, Duke, Ivy’s, etc.

UF uses holistic admissions, so it’s typical to hear about students getting reject, while others with slightly lower stats gets accepted. That’s the nature of holistic admissions.

At UF, 50% of admissions is based on GPA (most important), class rigor (did you take the toughest courses available at hour high school), and test scores (least important of the three).

50% of admissions is based on ECs, leadership, volunteer and work experience.

The essay also matters at UF.

In your friends case, the GPA may have been a little low, and that would have been far more important than test scores. Or perhaps the only EC they had was a varsity sport, with little volunteering, work, or leadership experience. It’s impossible to tell.

In your case, you should think about re-taking your test (ACT, SAT or both), since the scores are a bit low for UF. You can’t do much about your GPA (if you are a senior), so look at improving your test scores (you have until the end of December to get any new test scores to UF), and perhaps expand on ECs, volunteering or work experience in your senior year (that you could list on the App, that’s due Nov 1’st).
