Is it really that hard to get into Mich OOS?

As the title states...

let's compare it to:
-- UVA
-- UNC
-- Berkeley
-- UCLA

All OOS

Which is the hardest? How does Mich rank?

Berkeley > UCLA > UNC > UVA > UMich

In my opinion...

Keep in mind the % of OOS students accepted at each. UMich is by far the highest at about 35%.

Cal, UCLA, UNC and UVA accept 15%-20% of OOS applicants. Michigan accepts 30%-40% of OOS applicants. However, in terms of SAT/ACT scores and GPA/class rank, they are all roughly the same.

At Mich OOS people are fairly close in quality to instate.

At the other the OOS kids are in a different league

hmmm i got accepted at unc but i've been deferred from umich since like decemeber

The other schools are more biased towards in-state students.

From what I've seen from my school I'd say that UMich is the easiset school to get into OOS by far.

Berkeley>UNC>UVA>UCLA>UMich

I got into Michigan OOS with very mediocre stats:

3.6 Michigan GPA
30 ACT
Application was complete in December

college admissions is really totally random. oh yea and i'm oos from unc so its not like i got in easy instate. 0711 i had simliar stats and still waiting for umich after getting deferred

UC Berkeley for OOS.

hmm

My son was accepted into Honors at Michigan without writing an essay, but is waitlisted at UNC

umich honors isn't like other school's honors. Most students in the top 50% at umich can get into honors, but most don't choose to, because there isn't any real perk.

and since there's no honors for engineering, many of the most qualified kids arent in honors

I heard UNC out of state is near-impossible.
