Is it really this much harder for internationals?

From the most recent MSAR Download msar0910(2) xls for free at Uploading.com:

NYU: only 1 out of 160 matriculants was international.
Einstein: 7/184
Columbia: 9/155
Hopkins: 5/118
Duke: 4/100
Cornell: 2/101
WashU: 4/122
Other schools are even worse.

Considering such an extremely low rate of accepting internationals, I am pretty sure that average GPA only for internationals will be 4.0 or very close to it, though the average GPA of matriculants is 3.6-3.9 for most schools. All the other things like MCAT and EC for internationals would also be at a much higher standard.
As an international (Canadian), do I have a much lower chance of getting into a US school, compared to an average US student?

“much lower” would be a massive understatement

the biggest disadvantage in med school admissions is being an international student…if you do want to go to med school you should definitely apply to canadian schools in addition to american schools because your chance of ending up at an american school are extremely slim

I have 2 Canadian classmates. I have 140 classmates overall.

That’s even less than 5%! :(

Is there a reason why you’re upset by all this - are you bound and determined to go to medical school in the US? Have you looked at the data for Canadian schools? There are about 350 million people in the US with 130 medical schools, and there are about 35 million people in Canada with 17 medical schools - that seems quite reasonable from an admittedly very rough analysis.
