I got a really low score on the act test, to embarrassed to even admit now, but i got into the state college my parents wanted me to go, but i honestly feel like i can do better than what i got. is it just going to be a waste of money, or will i need the score later on in my career? (i'm just barely an entering college freshman)

In case, you want to go to a different college. I suggest that you take it again.

If you are planning to graduate from the school you are barely a freshman at, no one in the future will ever care what your ACT score was. If you intend to go to graduate or professional school, you may have other tests in your future. If so, plan ahead and do plenty of prep as that test approaches (junior year or later in college).

It depends what you’re planning to do with your life. If you’re a premed and planning to apply to some early assurance medical programs in sophomore year then yes, ACT score will matte. Otherwise it doesn’t.

My middle son retook his SATs during his freshman year of college … he did this hoping to improve his transfer applications. Supporting a transfer is the only reason I can imagine an outside group wanting to see college admissions tests taken while in college.

PS - his scores did improve quite a bit … and he did transfer
