It doesn't seem like a good idea to me. But a lot of these apps ask for honors (I don't have many) and/or scholarships that you have won or applied for. What would you do?

I would list the scholarships.

Committees like winners. (I have friends who sit on scholarship committees. Honestly they don’t hold winning other scholarships against you. In a way they like to see that their judgments are reinforced.)

Also failing to reveal you’ve won/applied for other scholarships could potentially cause any awards you’re given to be revoked for dishonesty.

^ Thanks WayOutWestMom. I held off on a lot of apps b/c I was afraid. Fwiw, I have indicated it on at least one application. I just wanted to know if it was a “chance-reducing” factor. Shame on me for being ambivalent.

I think it’s fine to list the ones you’ve won. My only take on it is that locally, in our smallish community, they do like to “spread the dollars” around among as many students as possible and do notice if another local organization has awarded. Sometimes it influences, sometimes not. National and regional and college awarded scholarships don’t impact.
