Is it stupid? VT OSU

To transfer from Virginia Tech to Ohio State? I have a ton of friends at Ohio state so that isn't a problem, but as far as academics and job opportunities where am I better off? It just bugged me how I was actually worried about getting into Virginia Tech when I did, but then I apply to OSU as a transfer and it says "if you have a 2.8 you will be admitted" on the admissions guidelines page. I just don't like the guarantee, it's like their desperate for students.

So, basically, is it stupid, employment-wise, academics wise, to go from VT to OSU. I know OSU is ranked higher, but it just has this reputation I feel like...? Thanks for the input, and sorry if you go to OSU and are offended by this, I just need some advise.

If you are majoring in Engineering or something of the like at VTech, then stay. If you are doing Business, then OSU. If you are doing a liberal art I'd say its a toss up. Don't worry about the rankings as a whole, the reputation of each specific department is what is important.

Thats only academic-wise... go where you will be happy.

i agree with you, TheProfessor, however OSU's rankings are actually higher in engineering and overall, so I'm really only basing this off of reputation.

Why do you want to transfer?

My daughter will be going to OSU this fall, majoring in engineering. We thought she was going to go to VT, but at the last minute she decided to stay close to home and go to OSU. We think she is making a mistake, but it is hers to make.

I loved the feel of VT's campus as compared to OSU. OSU is not nearly as pretty and it is so spread out. Both are ranked ok as far as acadmics go. From what I read, VT is ranked higher than OSU in engineering. I am not really that obsessed with the rankings, though, because I think you have to look at the overall picture. Sure rankings are one piece of the puzzle, but there are other factors. What is important to you?

By the way, OSU is not desperate for students. Their published acceptance rate this year is 56%. I know many kids who did not get in or who have to go to a branch campus for their first year. Just thought you should know.

Well I understand that, but I've never seen another school website say that for transfer students "if you have a 2.8...you will be admitted"

So, transferee, why is it that you want to transfer?
