I am a CC student in Washington State wrapping up my first year preparing to transfer in Mechanical Engineering. The University of Washington is the default choice here in the Northwest; however I've been longing to stretch my legs for quite awhile and at the beginning of the year I made it a goal of mine to try to get into Berkeley (I would transfer in Fall 2006).

While this goal has provided me with much drive through the past year I also still need to be realistic in my ambitions. I know for an out-of-state student especially, transferring can be a near impossibility. But with that said here are some of the things I've accomplished this year:

*Heavily involved in the Engineering Club and will traveling to D.C. this June for an international submarine competition. Big deal for our school as we are the only CC participating (UW and Villanova are a few of the other competitors). Hope to head club next year.

*Joined student senate and it's transportation committee (HUGE problem at our school). I will head the transportation committee next year. I have recently applied for ASB president; but that is to be decided later this month. However it is fairly certain I will serve on the executive council (Most likely as VP of Budget and Finance, but hoping to be President!).

*Courses:
Fall Quarter: 17.5 Credits, 3.58 GPA
Winter Quarter: 20.5 Credits, 3.91 GPA
Spring Quarter: 24 Credits, currently all As (4.0) :)

*I am studying abroad this summer in Annecy, France reacclimating myself with the French Language. It will be 15 semester credits and should be really fun.

*Starting a Media Awareness Club (Still deciding on a name...) for next year. It is something a few students and I are concerned with and want to shed light on. Its really about pursuing the truth in politics and world affairs, and being skeptical of some of the crap that is fed to us on the news.

In high school I wasnt quite as motivated. I had a cumulative un-weighted GPA of 2.9. However I did take four AP classes (Physics, Calc, History and English) and received AP credit in three of them (I never even bothered taking the history test). I also took French all four years and honors english freshman and sophmore years. My SAT was 1310.

So do I stand a competitive chance for acceptance into Berkeleys College of Engineering? I could post more regarding my academics if they'd help, but I figured this post was already long enough. If it's time for me to get real though, then so be it.

Thanks,
-Justin
