i submitted my app one hour ago

I hope not.

I was trying to find a link, but I read somewhere that alumni interviews are arranged after Harvard receives your supplement. I think that is why they want the supplement by Dec. 1; interviews are held through December. After their RD deadline I am not sure how they will decided who will get an interview unless you submitted your supplement ahead of time. =/

the kids who usually applied in my school in past years had their interviews in jan./feb. after submitting at the deadline.

My S sent his common app on Election day (we sent the essays later in mail) and was interviewed, I want to say, early December. Getting you apps early is a key thing for interview I feel. How will they even interview a fraction of applicants if 80% of the 28+ K apps show up in the last 10 days of December? But dont worry too much about whether you get an interview or not.

of course its not too late. everyone gets an interview if the resources are available. why do people who don't know anything about the college process keep giving false information?

Is it a bad sign that I submitted my app and supplement in its entirety on November 14th and I haven't been contacted about an interview yet?

Last year, my Harvard freshman D was e-mailed by her interviewer on Jan. 15th for a Feb. 9th interview. Harvard has trained alumni interviewers all over the world. Everyone who applies gets an interview unless they're somewhere exceptionally remote.

The bulk of the applications come in at the deadline = the resources for an interview become more scarce since it is in higher demand = fewer applicants will have the opportunity for an interview.

The interview is not a required part of the application so its not a "bad sign" if you are not scheduled one. I am sure that there are numerous students who did not have an interview that were admitted.

From Harvard Admissions FAQ:
"No candidate is at a disadvantage if an interview cannot be arranged."

shrugs I turned in my app in late October (I had EA apps due so I just did them all) and I only got called about an interview last week.

Last year our son submitted his application at the end of December, and was not contacted for an interview until the middle of March. He is currently loving his Harvard freshman year. So don't worry if you don't get contacted for an interview right away. If you haven't been contacted by the beginning of March, send an email to Harvard admissions office letting them know. But obviously a late interview does not negatively impact your chances of being accepted.

My son sent in his application last week (12/27), and he was contact a day or two ago for an interview tomorrow (1/4).

BTW: According to the Harvard Web Page, "January 1 Final Postmark Deadline for all parts of your application "

Harvard College Admissions Office: Prospective Students

It seems like you submitted the application at 11:30 pm on Jan 1. Did you get everything else postmarked by Jan 1 (transcripts, recommendations, etc.)?

Does Jakarta, Indonesia sound like a 'exceptionally remote' place for you?
I applied on Jan 1st. Is it better to have an interview or not?

@Dare7to7Dream - I don't think Jakarta is an exceptionally remote region and I'm sure you will find at least one 1 Harvard alum there. As previous posters said, not having an interview for legitimate reasons (no available interviewers, etc) will not affect your application at all. Most applicants get their interviews sometime before March, so don't freak out too much now. Good luck!

EDIT: Tho I still wish someone would contact me for an interview soon lol :)

I sent my app in way back in october and I havent heard from anyone. I already did my Yale and Georgetown interviews as well.

well, i just want an interview for the experience... just gotta wait...
