When I visited Northwestern website few weeks ago in early October, I found out that applying for financial aid as an international student would lower my acceptance rate. My college advisor also had suggested me not to apply for financial aid unless I do not have the resources to pay Northwestern at all. At that time, I didn't think so far ahead and getting into college seemed like a priority. So, at the last minute before I submitted my common app, I didn't apply for financial aid.

However, my family is a middle-income family. My dad is the only one working in our house. My sister, who is two years younger than me, is thinking about going to an art school. I am also thinking of going to a graduate school after I graduate from college because I love learning and I want to further on my studies. Moreover, my dad is self-employed and I've recently found out that he hasn't been able to earn money for the past few months. This worries me.

I really love Northwestern, as you might have guessed. That is why I applied Northwestern ED. However, re-considering many factors I've listed above and knowing that I won't be able to apply for FA once I get accepted by Northwestern (not that I'm sure I will get accepted), I do not think my family can easily handle 4 years of tuition at Northwestern.

So, here is my real question: Is it too late to apply for financial aid even if I didn't apply for one in my common app?

By the way, I am planning to send this email to International Student Undergrad admissions. Do you think this is a good idea? I am not planning on telling my college advisor, by the way. He has been really discouraging to all students lately.
