Considering it’s early December, I still have time, right? I was planning on taking AP Psych next year (I’m a junior) in place of Art 4 or AP Art, but I really enjoy art, and I have also heard that Psych is one of the easiest AP exams to self-study for. I am not planning on self-studying for lack of AP offerings at my school; I am simply interested in both Psych and Art and want to take both.
Self-studying it during senior year would mean I would be studying for 6 AP exams senior year, which I’m not too keen on. Additionally, it wouldn’t really help my application by showing my interests, considering I’d submit the ComApp long before I would take the AP Psych test.
My question is, is it too late for me to start self-studying and be able to confidently get a 5, if I study an hour a day from Barron’s or PR? Should I talk to a teacher about this?
For reference (so this doesn’t seem like just a bump ), here is my schedule/planned schedule, amended from one of my previous threads to include this new decision of mine:
I would definitely go for it man. I just started studying for ap psych like a week ago and it flies by honestly. I just downloaded the Myers AP psych book for free and am using a few video and book supplements. Technically, you could probably self study the exam in like two weeks if you really want to. Good luck!
Its definitely not too late to start studying. In fact, I wouldn’t start studying until after winter break (but thats the my true procrastinatory nature showing through). That being said, one less or more AP test won’t actually matter in context of the AP Scholar awards or college admissions.
Also OP, how many tests for the classes are you actually planning on taking? If you’re taking Calc BC next year, don’t bother with the Calc AB test because the AP BC test will give you an AB subscore. Save that $100 on testing fees and prep books (and also hours of studying and sleep).
APES isn’t incredibly study intensive, and Lang you can’t practice that much (apart from the multiple choice). APUSH will just be a lot of review and will take up most of you study time in the month preceding the tests. Depending on your schedule, there’s time for an hour of study every day (which is honestly all that you need). Use Barrons, familiarize yourself with the format/ what they free response graders want in an answer (especially if they ask you to set up an experiment). There’s a teacher on youtube (Amanda Rice) who teaches Psych and posts lectures online. Use them to patch weak spot in your knowledge.
@mohammadmohd18 Well, kind of. I just print off like 2 modules a day read them, and do some review. I won’t really start doing AP specific practice until near the exam date
@wannagotoivy I’ve heard lots of people saying that APES is a “lite AP”, but that doesn’t mean you can just cram for it in a week, I think. No matter how good you may think you are at cramming, you can’t cram for APES. Assuming you start in January or so, though, you will be fine. (I hope)
