Is it too late in the semester to apply for a loan?

I usually receive TAP (NY state college aid) in addition to Pell every semester. This semester I didn’t receive TAP and didn’t know I owed $3000 for this semester to my school until last week. I don’t have the money to pay off the tuition so is it too late to apply for a federal loan to pay it off?

The semester ends December 21st or the 23rd and I read online I can still apply for a loan until this time. Is it still possible?

Did you complete a FAFSA for the 2015-2016 school year? If so, go to yoir financial aid office and ask about a Direct Loan. If you are a sophomore in college, you can get $6500 for the year in Dirxt Loan money if you are attending college full time.

But you have to complete the FAFSA!

You can probably get the loan, but what about next semester? What year in college are you?

You got TAP last year, but not this year? Do you know why?

It’s extremely complicated. I transferred schools and incorrectly coded my old school for fall TAP money. I did not drop a class in time from my old school so they are keeping my TAP. I did receive TAP for this semester but can’t access it and it won’t be sent to my current school.

I should be getting it next semester though.

I’m also a junior with three more semesters to go. I did my FAFSA also.

If you submitted FAFSA, then just tell your school’s FA office that you want your $7500 loan…half for fall semester and half for spring…it’s not too late at all.
