Is it too Late MIT interview?

My interview has already waived, because there is not any interviewer in my country. Surprisingly, I have just received e-mail from MIT admission interviewer. He said we will interview each other via phone or google talk. I think it is too late to interview, because decision date is soon. It is less than 10 days. What do you think? Will it affect my decision?

You can see this thread: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/massachusetts-institute-technology/860393-mit-international-interview-mid-year-report-right-way.html

Anyway, I suggest you catch this last-minute opportunity

I had an interview this week, too!!
I had missed the deadline to contact my EC by a lot and was afraid to ask her for an interview so late.
But this past weekend, she contacted me first and offered to have an interview with me!!
How lucky I am!!!
At the end of the interview, if I heard it right, my EC told that MIT wanted to “see if I’m fluent.” I guess MIT wanted to double check if my English was fluent, since I’m an international student and my SAT Reading and English grades from school weren’t that fabulous…
She also gave me an account of her personal opinion (yes, only her personal…) that seeing MIT wanted to offer me an interview even in MARCH (and she tried to make me feel guilty for not having contacted her when I was supposed to. I understood that it was my very fault, so I didn’t give her my whole list of excuses…), she thinks I “might” have a good possibility of getting in!
I’m not sure if she said it just to be nice, but this sure made me very excited!!!
I know that I shouldn’t hold my hopes too high just from these words, but I just can’t stop thinking that I actually may be able to be accepted from my dream school!

@bobo90, maybe MIT wants to see if you’re “fluent” also??

@eogkr I am also an international student, and my SAT reasoning English scores are not very good. I worry if EC wants to see my fluent in English. Actually, I am not a good English speaker. But I hope I am in similar situation with you. Can you talk about yourself? For example your stats and EC’s.

Can you tell me what she asked about ?

I’m an International student too, and did not give the TOEFL. If the interview was fine I suppose they wont mind in my case too?

When was your interview? In my opinion, if your SAT score is fine , it is ok.

WOW, We are all international students…

Isn’t an interview too late now?

I’m pretty sure they know who’s in or not within a few days, so yeah.

My stats and EC’s are decent but not fabulous, to be honest. (I’m not like a 4.3GPA student or an olympiad winner…) But I do think that MIT is a perfect match for me and I hope MIT will see that too! lol

MIT rarely and occasionally asks for a late interview. There were 4 in my region this year, which is the highest it has been in some years. That being said, all of our late requests came in by early to mid February. A late interview is usually there to resolve a question about the application, such as “Is this student a fluent English speaker”, but not limited to that. I have seen native English speakers be asked for a late interview.

I would believe that anyone asked for a late interview is probably competitive. If you weren’t being strongly considered for admission, then the admissions office would not bother to ask for the interview. Though not being asked doesn’t indicate anything either. Every year, there are a bunch of students admitted without any interview, and without the admissions office asking for one.

As to the “Isn’t it too late?” question. Yes, I would normally have presumed so, but if the selection committee chooses to ask for an interview, then they know it is coming in, and they will take it in to account when reaching a conclusion.

guys, post here if your admission decisions. I’m just curious (my interview was in March 5)!
