I think it is too late for a near free ride in engineering.
Pick up the phone and call Rutgers, and ask them.
Colleges listed by deadline date. Page down http://www.petersons.com/college-search/late-deadline-schools.aspx
@njnetsbently If you’re a incoming freshman, you can still apply to SAS but i think the other schools are no longer accepting apps but youd have to check that. However, to be considered for merit scholarships for Rutgers, you had to submit the by Dec 1st. So if you end up applying, you’ll only have Financial aid to support you.
You need to take a gap year - work, volunteer, improve your application and test scores, and apply as soon as the app goes live, applying for merit scholarships in November (deadline is December 1st).
@MYOS1634 gap year!?!?!?! for probably just a couple thousand in merit aid ?!?!?! lol why?
Unless you can be full pay and like the colleges that still accept applications, your odds aren’t very good.
What’s your budget?
my father will pay for it all …he will just take the best (cheapest) out of my apps…
regardless i dont think its worth it to take a year off,
@MYOS1634 , would you agree the scholarships aren’t like what they used to be?
There are plenty of schools which offer high merit aid, up to full rides.
@gearmom , still???
could you name a few?
Not still, sorry if I gave you hope, but for next year because you said a gap year would not be worth it. You also said much earlier that you could only pay $1000 to $2000 per year for everything. Is that true?
@gearmom , gap year seems to much of a waste for a couple thousand ( 1-5k) a yr more…which is all rutgers wud probably give me (UB -5k ans SBU-3.5k) …
what schools would though out of curiosity ?
You didn’t apply to schools which give good merit aid. We received 13k from WPI, 10k from UMass, 5k instate from URI and 16k UMaine in comparison. Full rides to be found at places like Alabama.
@gearmom , 13k to a $44,000 / yr @WPI …
That is all we received from them, 13k per year. I know people who have received much more. Add to 44k tuition 13k for room and board.
@gearmom , what were your DS/DD sats? where did they end up going?
thnx for your help!
His stats were average. 3.84 UW GPA, 1970 SAT with his writing score very mediocre. Didn’t want to take it over again. The usual AP and ECs for STEM. I think he interviews well though and did that.
We are still deciding on a school.
And I would have expected a similar package from RPI for him. FYI
