When I applied to college I checked that I was not applying for financial aid. This decision was primarily because virtually every calculator showed that I would get none. However, I recently figured that there is nothing to lose if I try for some aid. Will colleges (I'm talking need-blind institutions here) allow me to still apply for it? Thanks.

Check with each college/university on your list, and find out if it is too late to file the paperwork or not.

Will do. Thanks a lot.

Even if the college says “the deadline was Jan 1”, still inquire if you can submit paperwork and be considered. If they say “yes” or “yes, but . . .” then still go ahead and do so. Not only might you catch a break, you also will have an understanding of the process and be primed to submit your application next cycle (print off and keep copies of the FAFSA or other forms so that you have a record for next cycle).

If you’re only interested in a Stafford loan there is no problem. You will have to let the school know so they know to pull in the FAFSA loan info.
