IU-B has a rolling admissions policy–which means that you can apply anytime. I think last year they accepted people as late as July for the Fall Semester (which started around August 28th). If you apply now, you will get your notification of acceptance/rejection in about 4 to 6 weeks.

As far as your chances, if you are in the top 10% of your class, since your scores have been steadily improving, and with the SAT scores you indicated, you should be accepted–just make sure that your class rank is reflected on your transcript.

I’m confused about your grades. Make sure your school will send a “prospectus” to IU along with your application, something that explains their grading system.

Ya, definitely make sure you really really stress that the grading system is different where you’re from because in the US, those grades look low, but seeing as you’re top 10%, they must be good in Dubai. It’s all about perspective, so make sure it’s super clear (might even want to mention more than once).

My school told me that on every sheet they mentioned the grading system

Heres how it goes
Below 35% - Grade F
-35% and above Grade D
-50% grade C
-60% grade B
-70% grade B+
-80% grade A
-85% grade A+

my problem is that my overall rank to date is 4/63
but in year 9 when i got 53 % i had a 3 D’s out of 7 subjects but the in the same year I got 2 A+'s so my % evened out but i really started doing well from year 11 onwards so my rank shot up. The reason being my subjects had changed and i really enjoyed them. But I could not mention all this on the transcript nor an essay because IUB don’t have essays . my school only mentioned how the grades went about .

Will this significantly affect my chances ? or hopefully will the admissions counselors understand ! Or should i send them an email explaining this !

Yeah, that’s a very hard call. I think IU is pretty cut and dried about their grades. I hate to be negative, but…? I’m thinking that’s not looking so great. Note - you CAN mention this. Just include an essay. They accept supplementals (check the website). The reason for your grades swing is something you REALLY MUST address. Just include (send/fax separately, whatever) an essay on why this happend. I don’t know that it will do anything. But, without it - it’s just not great, I’m afraid. I don’t remember exactly but I think those Ds will look pretty bad.

Your stats are not that bad for IU. Being a full-pay, international student will help a lot. I don’t know how they can turn you down if you are in the top 6% of your class. Top 6% is an excellent class ranking, and class ranking is as important as gpa and even more important than SAT to IU admissions. At least 2,000 entering freshmen in the 2009-2010 entering class had lower SAT scores than you have. The admissions office will not have any trouble understanding your grading system, if it is explained on your transcript, which you indicate that it is.

You have chance postings on CC dating back to August. What are you waiting for? The longer you wait, the harder it will be to get in. You should have applied in August or September. You would probably would have been accepted months ago. If you don’t get in, it will probably be because you applied too late, but I think you can still get it if you apply now.

I had everything in by 14 jan ! I hesitated because I would not be a direct admit but seeing that MANY arent I said wth ! Ill definately be attending if I get in !

@ R12 Im sorry but i noticed youre earlier post only now ! will i get into trouble if i do not send the fax etc cause they said they wil delay the decision by three weeks at the minimum ! so should i still send it ! and they did say it would be inconvenient for them ! IF it really badly hurts my chances then i will send it ! purdue and iupui already accepted me if that counts for anything using the same format !

Oh no! Of COURSE do whatever the college says! If they say they don’t want it, then don’t send it. And…if Purdue accepted you - IU probably will too! Sorry if I was too negative about the D’s. I just know what IU asks for as far as grades, and our own next door neighbor was waitlist with much better grades (she later got in though). And, if you end up at IUPUI…no worries - you can transfer later (I know someone who is doing this), and/or you’ll STILL get an Purdue or IU degree. So…I’m sure you’re fine - good luck!
