My son has decided, at the eleventh hour, that he wants to apply to Michigan. He was hesitant to apply earlier because his best ACT did not include writing. In speaking with admissions, he was told to send his best score and the score with writing.
I know the deadline is February 1st, but are there really any spots left at this late date?

Yes, there are definitely spots left! They only accept less than half of their freshmen class early action. please tell him to apply asap as it is rolling for regular decision. I know a person who applied on the deadline (which I do not recommend doing as it shows you are not very interested) and got in march (ended up going to stanford though) so its entirely possible that your son may be able to receive a decision next month or in february so apply asap.
