I have decided today that I want to apply to University of Michigan Ann Arbor. I checked their essays and I have already written essays for other colleges that fit their questions. Even though the deadline for Fall 2010 is February 1st, I hear that they close the admissions process if all the spaces fill up. If I send in my application today and my school sends in the transcripts on Monday or Tuesday, do you think I still will hear a decision from them. Also, is it harder to get in as the deadline comes closer?

It becomes very tough to get in after the EA deadline. Depending on your stats you may or may not hear. Usually though unless you have super-competitive stats the chances of hearing back are slim. If your stats are in the range for U of M then I think that you should still apply. It costs you nothing to see what will happen, except of course the $40 application fee.

Its best to apply early, as the school encourages one to. Though it is not too late because the offical deadlin is in Feb.

Lol, it better not be! I sent my scores/transcript 2 months ago, and now I’ve already finished my application but didn’t submit yet because I’m waiting for my teacher’s rec

patriotsfan, if you are a solid candidate, you still have a chance. By “solid”, I mean slightly above average stats of admitted students (4.0 unweighed GPA, 32+ on the ACT or 1450/2200+ on the SAT.

On the other hand, if you are a marginal applicant, your chances are next to nil. By marginal, I mean slightly below the average stats for admitted students (less than a 3.8 unweighed GPA and under a 30 ACT or under 1350/2000 on the SAT.

I have a 1450/2140 SAT and a 3.71 UW GPA. I took two tough AP classes last year, and am taking three more this year plus 10 quarter credits at a local university for English and literature. Would I have a decent chance if I submitted my application within the week?

u have a decent chance; send it in.

"It becomes very tough to get in after the EA deadline. "

So the people who apply now and have an average gpa and sat have almost no chance of getting in? I would think that most people would be sending in their applications the week before the Feb 1st deadline…I still have to send in my application and now I’m worried about my chances of even getting considered for admissions

A-Punk, you have a chance, but at this stage, Michigan would be a reach (it would have been a match had you applied earlier).
